Show your child love.

Give your child love, attention and affection. This actually helps their brain to grow. Hug, touch, smile, encourage, listen to, and play with your little one whenever you can.

 

Care for your child’s basic needs.

Be sure your baby gets plenty of sleep and the proper nutrition, regular checkups. Your doctor will tell you what is needed for proper nutrition at different ages. Tend to your baby’s physical comfort promptly, changing diapers, being sure your baby is not too hot or too cold.

 

Talk to your child, even as a newborn.

It will help development your child’s IQ and vocabulary. Look at him while you are speaking. Tell him what you are doing and are going to do. Tell him sweet things and speak wisdom over your child.

 

Read to your child.

Reading out loud to your child is one of the most important things you can do to help build your child’s vocabulary, stimulate imagination and improve language skills. It is also an opportunity to cuddle and socialize with your child. Do it from day one.

 

Stimulate all of his senses.

Expose your child to people, places and things. When children are presented with new experiences that engage their senses, it enlarges their brain. Do not overstimulate and bombard your child every minute of the day, but give him new experiences. Choose toys with different textures, sizes, shapes, colors, and weights. Play interactive games, like peekaboo and patty cake. Go on walks, take shopping trips and allow him to meet new people. Give your child room to roam and childproof your home.

 

Encourage new challenges.

If your child is having difficulty with something, do not do it for him right away. Let him try to figure it out. Show him how if he is unable after trying and then see if he can do it himself.

 

Find good childcare when you need it or if you work outside of the home.
