Winter Party Ideas

If you live where it is cold, try some fun outdoor snow activities

•  Go sledding, tobogganing, or tubing
•  Go ice skating
•  Make snow forts
•  Make snowmen and angels in the snow
•  Have sledding or running races in the snow
•  If there is a lot of snow, make a big mound and smooth it out the best you can; then slide down it
•  Walk through the forest
•  Play broom hockey with a broom and tennis ball on some ice - skates are not required
•  Have a contest to see who can slide the farthest on their belly on the ice
•  Follow animal tracks in the snow
•  Have a snow tug-of-war
•  Use jumbo garbage bags to sled without a sled
•  Shovel people’s driveways and sidewalks for free
•  Wipe the snow off of cars in a shopping center parking lot
•  Make a snow obstacle course
•  Go cross-country skiing

Indoor winter party

•  Serve hot chocolate with plenty of marshmallows.
•  Make chili and soup with warm cornbread and whole grain bread.
•  Decorate with fake snow, cotton balls, and paper snowflakes.
•  Have a fire going and make S’mores.
•   Have a snowman-making contest using cotton balls or Styrofoam balls. Also, give the contestants options of other materials with which to decorate the snowmen, such as raisins, small buttons, construction paper, nuts, straw, toothpicks, and anything else you can think of. You’ll need glue, too. Have judges determine the best looking snowman and have a prize.
•  Divide into teams and have them make snowball mounds with cotton balls or Styrofoam balls. Take turns using spoons to carry the balls to the place they should make their pile. The first team to have everyone place a ball on the mound wins.
•  Make a live snowman. Divide into as many teams as you like. Have 3-5 people on a team. Give each team a roll of toilet paper, a hat, gloves, scarf, pipe, carrot, and a broom. They should wrap one person with the toilet paper. When the entire roll is used they can place the other items on their human “Frosty.” The team who finishes first wins.

Centerpiece Ideas

•  Decorate with winter gloves, scarves, hats, and even boots (clean them first). Arrange them on the table. Stuff them with tissue to give them more shape.
•  White candles and votives will set a peaceful mood.
•  Place floating candles in a bowl of clear or colored water.
•  Arrange clean boots with flowers in them.
•  Place lit candles on top of mirrors.
•  Decorate with baby’s breath and ferns strewn on the table.
•  Fill baskets with nuts, nutcrackers, and small whole fruit.
•  Fill short vases or bowls with cut-up winter fruit and water.
•  Fill baskets with bread and muffins; add a decorative ribbon.
