Every
woman on this earth is someone’s daughter and every
woman who has made Jesus the Lord of their life is God’s daughter. It is
something that is not discussed too much. We talk about being sisters,
but not
daughters. There is more of a sobriety that occurs when we think about
being a
daughter. This is probably because we associate having fun with our
sisters. A
sister has no authority in our life and we do not have to listen to her,
even
when she gives us good counsel. Many woman have had bad relationships
with
their earthly father, so it makes it difficult to conceive having a
loving bond
with our heavenly Father.
The more we can understand that God is a
loving Father and
we are His daughter, the greater the connection will be with Him.
One time I
was in a meeting and the speaker was talking about the Father’s love. He
told
us to picture a time, if we could, when we ran into our earthly father’s
arms.
That was easy for me. When my Dad came home from work, we would run from
all
corners of the house yelling, “Daddy’s home.” Once we reached Dad, each
one of
us would try to jump into his arms. During that meeting, I lifted my
arms and
cried out to my Daddy God. It was a powerful moment for me.
From
that day on I was able to meditate on God loving me. I
got pictures of myself going into the throne room and sitting in His
lap. I
received a sense of security knowing He was near and that He would never
leave
or forsake me. It was no longer like a guard, but of someone who
tenderly loved
and cared for me. This would never have occurred if I had not identified
myself
as His daughter.
Once we make a decision to be a daughter,
our relationship
with the Lord moves forward in a powerful way.
It is difficult to be a
father
when your children do not acknowledge and respect you as such. The
father can
do all kinds of wonderful things for the child, but if the child does
not
receive it, it is almost as if he did nothing. In any family each child
may
have a different perspective of their father. One might think he was the
greatest, while another does not like him at all. The reason for this is
in how
they view their father.
It
is the same in our relationship with the Lord. How do you
view Him? Some of us can’t imagine being in his presence or that He
genuinely
cares for us. Part of the reason is that we have not looked at ourselves
as His
daughter. Begin to say to yourself, “I AM A DAUGHTER OF GOD”. It’s
pretty
powerful when you think about it. This month our confessions are about
being a
daughter of God. I hope they paint a beautiful picture for you and
deepen your
relationship with your heavenly Father.
