Monthly Meditation:
Bella
This month’s meditation is dedicated to the new name of our Women’s Ministry, Bella...
Bella in Italian means “beautiful”.
My
desire is for each one of us to bring beauty everywhere we go and to
appreciate the beauty of God’s creation in everyone and everything.
Beauty is something that comes from within. It is seen in a person or a
thing. Each one of us should have a quest to beautify this world. There
is so much ugliness, just listen to the news for a few minutes. Even on
the E network, the beautiful people have ugly lives. We can see by
looking at God’s creation that He made it beautiful. It became corrupt
through sin. Ecclesiastes 3:11 states, “God made everything beautiful in
itself and in its time.” As we think about this we can walk with
confidence that we bring beauty with us.
What do you do when you spot something or someone that is beautiful?
I
stop and look. It usually brings me some peace, joy and pleasure. This
is what should occur when people encounter us. They should experience
God’s peace, joy and pleasure. They should know there is something
different about us just through encountering us.
Be honest with yourself about what you believe people see when they see you.
Is
it someone who is happy, pleasant or peaceful, even when there is a
problem? I realize we are all human and we have our moments, but we need
to work at, through meditation on God’s Word, about having God
attitudes and reactions. It is necessary that this occurs in private as
well as in public.
The world is consumed with looking good outwardly and I believe Christians are too.
They
may be one way at church and another at home; one way in front of
believers and another with unbelievers. This should not be. Our goal
should be to exemplify Christ everywhere.
1 Peter 3:1-5 tells us that beauty comes from within.
(1)
In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands,
even those who refuse to accept the Good News. Your godly lives will
speak to them better than any words. They will be won over (2) by
watching your pure, godly behavior. (3) Don’t be concerned about the
outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or
beautiful clothes. (4) You should be known for the beauty that comes
from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is
so precious to God. (5) That is the way the holy women of old made
themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of
their husbands.
This passage shows that people can be won over by our godly words and behavior. I like God’s Word Translation of verse 4:
“Rather
beauty is something internal that can’t be destroyed. Beauty expresses
itself in a gentle and quiet attitude which God considers precious”.
It
is also translated a gentle, quiet, peaceful, gracious disposition.
These are words I associate with beauty. The most important point to
remember about it is that it is precious to God. Isn’t our goal as
Christians to be pleasing to our heavenly Father? As we work on our
internal beauty we become more and more precious to God.
We
become more beautiful on the inside as we believe what God says about
us, as we choose to think about and agree with His Word. What occurs
when we do this is: “our outward expression is transformed into His image from glory to glory…”
Today, make a decision to be Bella and to make life beautiful everywhere you are.
