A Reason To Pray
1 Timothy 2:1-3, NKJV
Therefore
I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in
authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness
and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our
Savior...
1 Timothy 2:1-3, MESSAGE The
first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for
everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to
rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in
humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.
In
this passage I would like to focus on the word “especially”. We are to
pray for everyone, but especially for government rulers. This does not
mean for those who are in authority in the country we live in. What
rulers in other nations do affects us all. The reason we are to pray for
them is so we can live in peace and quietness, godliness and dignity.
As
Americans I do not think we understand what this means, because for the
most part, we are able to live this way. Many people all over the world
do not live in a peaceful environment and have little dignity because
of the way they are treated by their own government.
In this
section each month we list the names of heads of state of each country
so we can pray for them specifically. At the same time, it will
encourage us to pray for others in different parts of the world which
enables us to fulfill verse 1 praying for everyone everywhere. In many
countries, people are persecuted for the gospel. We are blessed we can
worship in America freely. It is through prayer and action that this
will happen.
2 Chr. 7:14 If
My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray
and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
We
often focus on the prayer part of this verse, but there is an action
part. We must pray, seek God and turn from our wicked ways. We must stop
acting like the world. How will the world know what God is all about,
if we do not exemplify Him in our life? Prayer will bring us to a place
of repentance and then God will heal our land.
Please make a
point of praying for the nations and their leaders on a regular basis.
Also, take some action by living a godly life and stand up for what is
right. It will bring you peace, quietness, godliness & dignity.
