2 c. flour
¾ c. warm water
1 t. sugar
1 pkg. yeast
1 t. salt
1 T. oil
1 egg
Mix water, sugar and yeast together in a bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until dough is soft and smooth. Add a tablespoon or more of water, if needed.
Turn dough out onto a flat surface and knead until smooth and elastic with a dull sheen. Shape dough into a ball and place in a large greased bowl, turning dough over to grease the top. Cover with a damp cloth; let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45-60 minutes.
Divide dough in half. (Dough may be frozen for later use.) Lightly flour surface to roll out dough. Roll out each half about 1/8 inch thick. Leave a thick ridge around the edge so topping does not spill over.
Oil the bottom of the pan (unless it is a stone). Cook the dough 10 minutes before adding additional ingredients. Add ingredients of your choice. Cook 20-25 minutes or until crust is crisp and golden brown.
