2 sticks of butter
2/3 c. sugar
4 t. baking powder
2 ½ T. Lemon extract
¼ c. cream or milk
4 c. sifted flour
Frosting:
2 c. powdered sugar
2 T. lemon extract
Water
Sift flour and baking powder twice and set aside. Cream butter. Add sugar, lemon extract, and cream. Mix well. Add eggs. Cream well. Add flour gradually. Mix after each addition. Refrigerate overnight or for 6 hours. Take a little dough and roll it between the palms of your hands. Make it about as thick as a 3 -4 inch pretzel stick. Connect the ends to make a circle. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
For the frosting – Put powdered sugar and a little water in a small pot. Mix over low heat. Add 2 tablespoons of lemon extract. Brush each cookie after they are cooled.
You can also make these orange flavored by using orange extract.
