Did you know there is a proper way to introduce people?
It makes them feel welcome and not awkward when you make the introduction.
Here is some information we hope will be helpful to you.

1. Address an older person before a younger one.
For example: “Mr. Dickson, I’d like to introduce you to my friend, Amy. Amy, this is Mr. Dickson.”

2. Address women before men.
For example: “Patty Shields, I’d like to introduce you to the restaurant owner, Steve Smith. Steve, Patty used to be my neighbor.”

3. Identify the people you are introducing and use the names they will use for each other.
For example: “Ms. Piersall, I’d like to introduce you to my cousin, Tony De Angelo. Tony, Ms. Piersall is my art teacher.”

4. An introduction is a good opportunity to let someone know that members of your family use different last names.
For example: “Mr. Rogers, I’d like to introduce you to my sisters, Anne Fontaine and Deanna Williams. Anne and Deanna, Mr. Rogers is my boss.”

5. It is also a good way to identify stepparents.
For example: “Mrs. Gilbert, I’d like to introduce you to my stepfather, Mr. Fred Flintstone. Fred, this is my English teacher, Mrs. Gilbert.”

6. When you forget someone’s name, introduce the person you do know, and chances are, the other one will finish the job by stating their name on their own. If that does not happen, tell them you are sorry, but their name has slipped your mind at the moment.
