Organizing Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Bedrooms and bathrooms are the first thing you see everyday so it is important to keep them uncluttered and looking good. This will help you start and end your day on a positive note. If you begin and end with it cluttered and uncleaned you will become frustrated will all the work you need to accomplish.

Here are some helpful hints:

•    Time how long it takes you to get ready in the morning. This will help you realize what time you need to get started getting ready. Give yourself a few extra minutes in case of interruptions.

•    Put a clock in your bathroom, so you can keep an eye on the time.

•    Have a nightstand or table next to your bed that is not much taller than the bed. Put a lamp, clock, & book your are currently reading on it. Use the drawer to keep miscellaneous items.

•    Use a dresser top valet
( shallow tray) to keep change, wallet, keys, business cards, rings, watch and anything else you will need in the morning.

•    Always make your bed
and be sure that your children do too.

•    Keep a dirty laundry hamper in each bedroom.

•    Be sure to have plenty of hangers in each bedroom closet.

•    Put a hook on the back of a door or have some place to put your nest day’s clothes out the night before.

•    When organizing your children’s rooms be sure items are low enough for them to reach and easy to get into.

•    Organize your clothes by color and season in your closet.

•    Use fabric covered boxes of various sizes in your drawer to organize underwear and socks.

•    It is best to fold laundered clothes when they are still warm from the dryer to minimize wrinkles.

•    If you have small children with bath toys use a toy basket that attaches to the tile wall with suction cups to put them away or a mesh bag that hooks onto the shower nozzle or with suction cups onto the wall.

•    Group products according to how they are used…showering, shaving, make-up, hair, etc.

•    Use the back of the bathroom door for possible storage like…for towels that have been used, but are not dirty.

•    If possible, give each family member a color towel and washcloth to use. Then each person will know which is his/her.

•    Use the same color for toothbrushes.

•    Use a cup or a toothbrush stand for toothbrushes and toothpaste.

•    Purchase a freestanding unit that straddles the toilet tank. Use it to store Kleenex, toilet paper, Q-tips, clean towels, etc.

•    Be sure to have a wastebasket in each bathroom and bedroom.

•    Use shower caddies to store items needed in the shower for bathing.

•    Do not allow the shower curtain to go all the way to the floor
when it is outside of the tub. Keep it a few inches longer than the top of the tub so it does not become a dust collector.
