For all of you living with “Hand-me-downs”, the first step is to choose what you like and what you don’t like. Yes, I believe you have preferences and can determine what they are. It is a matter of you defining what you like and what your mama likes/liked. Your mama got to decorate her home the way she chose to and now it is your turn.
1. Get a couple of boxes and begin to fill them with things around your home
that you have kept because:
A. Someone gave it to you.
B. It was in the home when you moved in.
C. You bought it at such a great price.
D. You bought it because you thought someone else might like it.
2. Keep the boxes of things for a couple of weeks.
Make sure you have lived without them without regret.
3. Give away or throw away what you have “boxed” up.
4. Begin window shopping only and take notes of what you like.
Why do you like it?
A. Do you like the shape?
B. Do you like the color?
C. Do you like the texture?
D. Do you like its usefulness?
Step into your new freedom from hanging on the things you don’t really like and learning about what you do like. Living as a minimalist is okay for now. We have a plan!
