When people try to please other people, they never win.
What
about you? Have you ever chosen an outfit because you thought others
would like it? Have you ever made a decision based on the view of
another and realized that you couldn’t figure out what to decide
without their opinion? Have you been unable to decide what to purchase
for yourself because you were confused about what others preferred?
All
of these scenarios are real to many people. For many reasons, people
have lost the courage to be who they are and therefore have forgotten
who they are. It is time for you to know your value again. It is time
for you to know that you can make good decisions because of who you
are, not because of who others are.
There is always rejection involved when pleasing people is your goal. You do not need to feel rejected anymore.
What
does any of this have to do with decorating? Most women are afraid to
decorate because they are afraid to choose the wrong color, the wrong
accessory, or the wrong fabric. Why do women deal with these fears?
People pleasing - for the most part.
Galatians 6:14 For
my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the cross of our Master,
Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, I have been crucified in relation
to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others
and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate. Can't you see
the central issue in all this? It is not what you and I do—submit to
circumcision, reject circumcision. It is what God is doing, and He is
creating something totally new, a free life! All who walk by this
standard are the true Israel of God—His chosen people. Peace and mercy
on them!
When
we learn about God [we can learn about Him by reading the Bible and
going to a church that teaches directly from the Bible consistently],
we find out what is important to Him. We can make what is important to
God important to us - and quietly, but surely, other people’s opinions
mean less to us.
Once we only have God to please, decision making is much easier.
So,
do you like red? Have red in your home. Do you like birds? Have a bird
theme in your home. Do you like velvets and silks? Have velvets and
silks in your home. It is really this simple. Begin with what YOU like
and decorate! Whatever you do, please God and relax. God made you a
very special you. If you have special likes when you decorate, go with
it! Make your home a place where God likes to dwell.
Imagine yourself shopping. You see new decorating ideas wherever you go. However, have you ever noticed that the colors and styles of decorating accessories are dictated for you?
When the two colors, blue and brown, presented themselves about 2 years ago, most people turned their noses up at them. Within 6 months, you knew 1 or two people using the colors and accessories in at least one room of their home. Within a year, you were seeing more and more blue and brown together wherever you went. The reason for that is simple ~ Marketing.
The trouble is this….or the wonder of it for the companies is this…it forces the consumer to purchase what is available. And, we are living in a society that being “trendy” is important.
So, to “keep up” with the trends, as an example, you can begin to incorporate purple into your décor…yes, that’s right. Purple is coming back and within a year, blue and brown will all be on clearance and within two years, when you are looking to freshen up accessories, blue and brown may be very difficult to find…as purple has been for the past couple of years.
If you have always loved blue and brown, then the past couple of years have been a blessing for you. But, for those of you who began purchasing blue and brown because it “grew” on you…it’s time for you to simply relax and think and dream about what colors you REALLY like…not what the market tells you that you like.
Be you. Allow yourself to love the colors you really love.
