Colored Disk Wire Ornaments

Supplies Needed:

1. Green Florist Sticks 2. A variety of colored plastic disks (Choose between small hole or large hole at the top) 3. 26 gauge Bright Wire on a spool 4. Green Florist Tape
The first step in making the wire ornaments is measuring the Bright Wire. I made the longest length (doubled over) in half to equal 12” and the shortest length no smaller than 6”. You measure your first wire to 24”, and then fold it over in half to equal 12”. Remember to double the wire lengths because you will be folding them in half. You will want to make between 6 and 8 different length wires depending on how full you want your Disk Wire Ornament to be.
Next, you will want to arrange your different color disks into a color pattern. You can use as many or as few color combinations as you desire, just remember to alternate your colors in keeping with your color pattern.
Start with your first color disk and slide it on one side of your folded wire. When you reach the fold, twist the two sides of your folded wire together under the disks, and continue twisting the wires to the length of ½” to ¾”. Then add your next color and repeat the twisting procedure. Do this same process with your color pattern until you are 1 ½” from the end of your folded wire. You will repeat this same process for the next 5 to 7 wires. Once you have completed all 6 to 8 wires, you will then take your florist stick and remove the small wire that is attached to it and discard. Then you want to twist the end of your disc colored wire and wind it around the stick. Try not to bunch the wire all at the top of the stick. When winding, start from the top of the stick until you are close to the bottom. This will prevent your stick from being too top heavy. Continue winding each of your disk colored wired until you have attached all of them to the florist stick. Now you will cover the wires that are attached to the stick, and the stick, with florist tape.
Start wrapping the wires right above your florist stick and continue winding down the stick to the very end of it. Make sure you have wrapped the end of the stick, so it is not so sharp. Then continue back up the stick again until all the sharp ends of the wires are covered.
Finally you want to straighten out each wire as much as you can and then separate them a bit so it looks more like a spray of color! Your product is now complete. These ornaments are great fillers for your tree or even on your garland. If you want, you can also add small plastic colored beads in between the disks, twisting them on the same way you twisted on the disks.
Have fun with your children and make memories!!
